New Grandson

On Friday, May 6, it was our joy to welcome our grandson, Evan James, into our family. What a cutie! We couldn't be more excited.  Evan's cousin Mylah, who was born six weeks ago, can't wait to get to know him!  I am so thankful for these blessings!

Buttons

My Grandmother had an old foot-operated sewing machine.  I remember as a child watching in amazement as her foot made that pedal fly while she sewed.  But that wasn't the best part.  In the wooden sewing machine table was a drawer where she kept spare buttons.  And she had the most spectacular buttons- wooden buttons, colorful buttons, and buttons covered with rhinestones.  My favorite thing to do when I visited her was to take the drawer out of her machine table and spread the buttons out on the dining room table to touch, admire, and sort.  She had baby dolls at her house that I could play with, but it was the buttons that I loved.  I can still remember the smell of that button drawer and see some of her buttons.

I am still fascinated with buttons.  Often I find buttons that inspire me in what I am making.  That was the case when I found these big yellow buttons from one of my favorite Etsy shops, Meltin' Mudd Studio.  I love the brown speckles.  They remind me of a bird's egg.  I ended up fashioning this brown sweater just to showcase these lovely buttons.

Just Finished

I just finished this sweater and listed it on Etsy.  It's made from one of my favorite yarns, a twist of caramel and cream colors.  I love the softness and beauty of this fiber.

Teamwork

In setting up my Etsy shop I read lots of advice from successful Etsy sellers.  Most recommended joining some Etsy teams.  After joining a few and participating in the discussions, I was beginning to question the value of being a part of those teams.  Then one morning I got a notification that I had been invited to join a newly-formed team, called 1000 Things Alpaca.  Hmmmmmmm, a team made up of people interested in promoting alpaca products; what a great idea.  So I immediately joined this new team.  Now, just two months later, the team boasts 443 members and is every active, with great discussions, and so many things going on that it's hard to keep up with them all.  The most fun is the weekly Treasury Challenge.  I was fortunate to have one of my item chosen as the Inspiration Item for the first challenge.  Suddenly I understood the value of being on a good Etsy team.  That week my shop enjoyed more hits than ever before.  The hat that was the Inspiration Item got lots of hats.  It was "favorited" by many people, and so were other items in my shop.  Every day new people were using my hat to form treasuries around, and were sending me messages and adding me to their circles.  In the weeks since then I have tried to pay those things forward by participating in the weekly challenge and building treasuries around the chosen items.  My thanks to the 1000 Things Alpaca Team, and my admiration goes to the leaders who put an incredible amount of time and effort into making this team a success.
